The Market

We aim to be the candy store for the professional chef, stocking the tools you use every day and the finds you didn't know you were looking for.

Whetstones and sharpening supplies

Shop the store

Knives, sharpening supplies, and hand-printed merch, at every price point. If we wouldn't want it in our own homes, it doesn't make the wall. Gift cards redeem in the store, in classes, and for services.

Visit the Store

Fresh from the hunt

We scour the Northeast for vintage knives, tin-lined copper, cast iron, enamel cookware, plating spoons, trivets, and more. Most are gone before they reach the online store.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. We're appointment based, and booking online takes about a minute: enter your number, we text you a code, you pick a time.

How does dropoff work?

Come by at your appointment time. We'll text you directions and a reminder beforehand. Text the number in your confirmation when you arrive and we'll come meet you.

Where are you located?

In Astoria, right off 30th Ave and 37th St. We're a workshop, not a storefront, and dropoffs are by appointment only, so book first: exact directions come with your confirmation.

What can you sharpen?

We'll attempt to sharpen anything with an edge: kitchen knives, scissors and shears, straight razors, garden tools, axes, chisels, and more. Not sure? Just ask.

Why are the appointment times mostly evenings?

We're a small part-time operation, not a storefront with all-day hours. Appointments run in focused evening sessions, which keeps quality high and turnaround honest.

How long does sharpening take?

Turnaround depends on the week's queue. We'll give you a pickup window at dropoff and text you the moment your edges are ready.

How much does it cost?

Whetstone work is priced by the inch, machine work by size. See the full rates above. Repairs and re-profiling are assessed in person at handoff.

What if I can't find an open slot?

Join the waitlist from the booking page. The moment slots open we reach out with a booking link. No need to check back.

How do I pay?

Cash or card at pickup, whichever you prefer. Classes are paid online when you book.

Do you sharpen for restaurants?

We do commercial work by arrangement. Email astoriacutlery@gmail.com and we'll talk through your kitchen's needs.

What happens if I forget to pick up?

We'll remind you, but Astoria Cutlery is not responsible for items left over 90 days.

Our Process

Whetstone sharpening can include a 120 and 400-grit re-bevel, a 1000 and 3000-grit edge refinement, and a 5000, 8000, and 10000-grit hand polish with compounded leather stropping. The progression and final finish are selected based on intended use, steel type, and style.

Scissors, shears, and pruners are sharpened on a Wolff Industries Twice as Sharp system.

Astoria Cutlery is not responsible for items left over 90 days.
